Inert Gas Pressure Meter

introduction
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) mandates specific safety and pollution prevention protocols for tankers. According to Annex I, Regulation 13B (Crude Oil Washing (C.O.W.) requirements) and Resolution A.446 (XI), 6.6(b) (use and control of Inert Gas), “if atmospheric pressure in the tank during crude oil washing is no longer positive, the washing process must be stopped until conditions are safe again.”
To ensure compliance with this regulation, operators can monitor the inert gas pressure in each tank using a portable gas pressure meter temporarily fitted on the Tank Gauging Station (Vapor Locks). This allows real-time observation of pressure conditions during C.O.W. operations.
The MMC Inert Gas Pressure Meter Model “GVP-75” series is designed specifically for this purpose. This model includes a low-range pressure meter attached to a gas-seal fitting that connects to the MMC Tank Gauging Station, ensuring no inert gas leaks from the tank. Key features include:
- Controlled Pressure Change: A screw-type orifice is built into the meter to moderate sudden pressure fluctuations, ensuring consistent readings.
- Dust Prevention: A mesh filter at the gas inlet prevents dust or particles from entering, enhancing accuracy and device longevity.
- Measurement Range: The meter displays pressure readings from -10 kPa (vacuum) to +30 kPa (positive pressure), providing a precise range for inert gas monitoring.
Key Benefits and Features:
- Portable and Easy to Attach: Quickly mounts on Vapor Locks, allowing flexible use across different tanks.
- Prevents Inert Gas Leakage: Maintains tank atmosphere integrity by securely attaching to the gauging station.
- Reliable Pressure Control: Screw-type orifice moderates pressure, ensuring accurate readings during C.O.W. operations.
- Dust Protection: Mesh filter prevents contamination, maintaining meter precision.
- Clear Pressure Range: Designed for a wide range of pressure readings, suitable for various tank conditions.
The MMC Inert Gas Pressure Meter “GVP-75” series ensures safe crude oil washing by maintaining compliance with IMO standards, providing a reliable tool for monitoring inert gas pressure in tank operations.
Caution
This portable pressure meter is intended solely for localized, on-deck measurement of tank inert gas. As it is sensitive to low pressures, careful handling is required. The device is not waterproof or designed for permanent deck installation, so it should be removed from the tank gauging station and stored safely after each use.
