introduction

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) mandates specific safety and pollution prevention protocols for tankers. According to Annex I, Regulation 13B (Crude Oil Washing (C.O.W.) requirements) and Resolution A.446 (XI), 6.6(b) (use and control of Inert Gas), “if atmospheric pressure in the tank during crude oil washing is no longer positive, the washing process must be stopped until conditions are safe again.”

To ensure compliance with this regulation, operators can monitor the inert gas pressure in each tank using a portable gas pressure meter temporarily fitted on the Tank Gauging Station (Vapor Locks). This allows real-time observation of pressure conditions during C.O.W. operations.

The MMC Inert Gas Pressure Meter Model “GVP-75” series is designed specifically for this purpose. This model includes a low-range pressure meter attached to a gas-seal fitting that connects to the MMC Tank Gauging Station, ensuring no inert gas leaks from the tank. Key features include:
