General

In case of GAUGING FOR CARGO OIL VOLUME IN TANK , it can be known by gauging the oil level with tank table. however, oil level changes by the temperature of oil, also crude oil especially contains a lot of water, and it separates from oil naturally and accumulates at tank bottom.

The “SONIC TAPE” (called so by oil-major and user) is portable tank gauging tape device which adopts ULTRA-SONIC sensing probe for detection of liquid, and direct level
reading at  HI-ACCURACY/RESPONSE can be performed. . [DIRECT GAUGING DEVICE].

    The MMC Sonic Tape was developed as a modern alternative to the conventional sounding steel tape for oil level readings. Instead of visually reading the oil level from where it adheres to the tape, the MMC Sonic Tape utilizes advanced technology for greater precision.

    The MMC Sonic Tape features a Conductive Graduated Tape which is a JIS 1st class graduated steel tape with conductive lead wires along both sides, coated with a fluoropolymer. It includes a Sonic Sensing Probe, which enables ullage, temperature, and oil-water interface detection through ultrasonic technology. Additionally, the Operation Hub Board houses the electrical PCB and battery within the Body Component (a gas-tight reel assembly with a storage barrel).

    Designed with gas-tight construction, the MMC Portable Sonic Tape operates on Vapor Locks (as per marine safety standards), which are mounted on tankship deck gauging valves. This intrinsically safe device complies with IEC Ex standards and is suitable for use in explosive gas environments under Ex IA IIB T4 classification.

    Model Definitions: The oil-water interface detector, assembled in gas-tight construction, is designated as Model D-2401-2, specifically for ullage/temperature gauging in a bi-mode configuration (Model N-2401-2). Together, the gas-tight UTI Sonic Tape is available under Model N-2401-2/D-2401-2.

    IMO MARPOL REGULATION 15,(3)(b) 【CONSOLIDATED IN EDITION 2006, ANNEX I, CHAPTER 4, REGULATION 32 】requires effective oil water interface detectors approved by the administration for a rapid and accurate determination of the oil-water interface in slop tanks and it shall be available for use in other tanks where the separation of oil and water is effected and from which it is intended to discharge effluent direct to the sea.

    • Ullage Gauging : Level can be read on graduated tape directly when top of the sensing probe reaches oil-layer, “continuous” tone sounds at reel hub.
    • Temperature Gauging :It can be achieved to measure temperature accurately by digital display on reel hub at range of 0℃～88℃ (accuracy within ±0.25 ℃) and continuously at any required level of liquid in tank by graduated tape.
    • Oil-water Interface :level can be read on graduated tape directly when top of the sensing probe reaches water layer (conductive liquid), “beeping” tone sounds at reel hub.
